Kelis1979年8月21日出生在纽约。她的父亲肯尼斯是爵士乐音乐家,母亲是位时装设计师。Kelis有着R&B界“Alanis Morissette”之称,一方面，她极具个性，才华洋溢的创作才能以及爆发力十足的带劲演唱方式让人眼前一亮。另一方面，她又经常变换出性感诱人形象地让所有乐迷为她倾倒。
1999年发行首张专辑《Kaleidoscope万花筒》，备受关注，并为她赢得英国音乐奖“最佳国际新进艺人”和NME“最佳节奏蓝调女歌手”的奖项。崭露头角的Kelis 2000年在欧美各地巡回，其杰出表现受U2、Moby等乐坛大哥大盛赞，并获邀与Moby、Busta Rhymes、Foxy BrownUsher、Bjork、No Doubt及Neptunes等前辈合作。
第二张专辑《Wanderland》在英国有8万张销售成绩。2003年第三张专辑《Tasty》中的单曲《Milkshake》成为2004年英国年度畅销单曲前10名。2006年的专辑《Kelis was here》中首支单曲《Bossy》获得美国流行单曲榜第16名和节奏蓝调/嘻哈榜第11名的好成绩，即使新生代R&B女歌手多如过江鲫，但Kelis亮眼的表现已被视为继TLC、Missy Elliott、Lauryn Hill及Macy Gray后最受瞩目的R&B乐坛新星。
第四张专辑『Kelis Was Here』，包含酷莉丝自己共动员多达十名製作人协力操盘。首支登上美国流行单曲榜Top16+节奏蓝调/嘻哈榜Top11的单曲”Bossy”，请来西岸饶舌狠角色Too $hort助饶；”Blindfold Me”加入强力电流交错嘻哈重击节拍；请来红翻全球黑眼豆豆精神领袖will.i.am操刀合作的”Weekend”，千变万化豆豆式桥段有趣谱入；符合美国佬喜爱的嘻哈作”Aww S!”，酷莉丝在声音表情上作了极具戏剧化演出，同时带领饶舌新秀Smoke帮腔；英美两地皆吃香的嘻哈饶舌团Goodie Mob以及Gnarls Barkley灵魂人物Cee-Lo，两人施展出动人灵韵在”Lil` Star”中，缓调放克灵魂音轨配上两人真假音搭腔，是专辑中百分百上乘抒情佳作。
